Texas Hold'em

Texas holdem is also known as holdem, the most popular online poker game today, most poker rooms have a reasonably good selection of various types of Texas Holdem. In contrast to other poker games like stud or draw where each player holds a separate individual hand, holdem is a community card game where each player may use any combination of the five community cards and their own two hole cards to make a poker hand.

The three major variations of Texas Holdem are distinguished from each other by their betting limits:

Limit Texas Holdem:There is a specified betting limit in each game and on each round of betting.
No Limit Texas Holdem: A player can bet all of his chips at any time.
Pot Limit Texas Holdem: A player can bet what is in the pot.

Each of these Texas Holdem variations are available online to play for free (play money) or play online for real money.

Texas Holdem areas of note include:
Stake Limits: If you are looking for higher stakes Texas Holdem (e.g. fixed limit $10/$20 or no-limit $2/$4 and up), only a few rooms have decent volume, particularly at off-peak hours.

Limit vs. No-Limit: Several of the leading poker rooms have a weaker No-Limit Texas Holdem offering as well as fewer or no short-handed games (e.g. five-six player tables).

Ring Games vs. Tournaments: There are big differences in tournaments selection, in particular whether the focus is on single tables (sit-and-go) or on scheduled multi-table events

How to Play?
Texas Holdem is a deceptively simple game to learn but a harder game to be a master. To begin with players, they are dealt with two 'hole' cards that only they can see and use. Then, five 'community' cards are dealt in the middle of the table that everyone can see and use with their hand. Players can make their five card hand from both, one or none of their hole cards in combination with the community cards. For this example we will use a low limit structure of $2/4. There are four betting rounds and the first two have a limit of $2 and the last two rounds have a limit of $4. You must bet or raise only the amount of the limit for that round.

If you would prefer learing to play Texas Holdem using a more hands-on method, we offer free poker games in our poker room for you to practice your poker skills.

Tips:
Read books to learn more about proper strategy.
Only play in low limit games as a beginner.
Practice at home with tutorial software.
